Congratulations to the Halton Hills Family Health Team for their long-standing Organization License with Craving Change Inc. Tammy Burgess, a dietitian at Halton Hills, has this to say about using the Craving Change cognitive-behavioural program in her practice:
“I facilitate in-person Craving Change Group workshops 2-3 times/year. I also use the cognitive-behavioural concepts and resources in person and virtually with individual patients. It’s an awesome feeling to witness a patient make the connections between the circumstances, thoughts and feelings that impact their behaviour and to excitedly share their ideas on how they can change these underlying influences.”
“The CBT Circles and Skimming Under the Surface of the Eating Iceberg resources have improved my ability to engage with my patients in a meaningful way that is non-judgemental and gentle. We work through the underlying factors that could influence their unwanted eating habit – the circumstances (late at night, after dinner, alone), their thoughts – “I deserve a treat after the long day I had. I can’t wait to relax with chips in front of the television.”, and their feelings at the time – bored, lonely, frustrated.”
“This has added value to my practice because I am better able to assess where patients are at in their health-related journey. Before applying Craving Change techniques and tools, it could take a long time to truly get to the root of my patients’ eating behaviour challenges. They are often genuinely surprised to learn about their underlying triggers. I find the tools help patients better understand that they are not alone; that this is a journey and it will take time to change, but that change can happen!”
