Joanne LeDoux, RD sees firsthand how learning about factors that influence eating behaviour and developing CBT ‘change’ skills gives clients a feeling of relief.
“I facilitate Craving Change workshops in several communities and offer one-on-one Craving Change sessions with clients, in-person and virtually. The program also provides many cognitive-behavioural concepts and resources to choose from to incorporate in my individual counselling sessions. Craving Change has added value to my practice as I no longer see food or personal eating practices as the only strategy to help my clients achieve their mostly behavioural health goals. We now look at thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I find this provides more opportunity for goal setting and ultimately success.”
“What continually surprises me the most is seeing the relief on my client’s faces and in their body language when they understand the benefits of the cognitive-behavioural strategies. For example, clients often come in initially being hard on themselves, blaming themselves for their unintended eating. It gives me satisfaction to help them recognize all of the environmental and physiological factors that can affect their eating. The program’s techniques and skills help them to be kinder to themselves.”
