So that’s what it’s called! ‘Food noise’!!
Many clients who have a challenging relationship with food report that they constantly think about food. They are obsessively and persistently preoccupied with food, especially highly palatable and energy-dense foods. In more scientific language, food noise can be defined as, ‘heightened and/or persistent reactivity triggered by external and internal food cues.’ Food noise is associated with overeating, maladaptive eating behaviours, and emotional eating. It is another example of the effect of our society’s strategic food marketing, social media infatuation with food, and readily accessible food choices. Our thoughts are powerful! Using cognitive-behaviour techniques, clients can tune into the food noise and learn to stop and/or adjust their unhelpful thinking habits.
