Having recently renewed her certification with Craving Change, Jessica Bigelow, RD, MPH shared the following about the cognitive-behavioural program:
“I often use the ‘types of hunger’ concept and the accompanying resource. It has improved my practice by giving me the words to describe to clients the different reasons why we eat in a practical way that makes sense. For many of my clients, emotional eating (heart hunger) is the main focus, but it helps to separate the types of hunger into three groups and reflect on them with curiosity and without judgement. I can also select the cognitive-behavioural change strategies from the program that limit diet culture.”
“I really like the self-affirmations worksheet. Recently, I had a client tell me she felt empowered when I repeated back to her all of the food skills and knowledge she described to me. Having someone else list and acknowledge that she had these necessary tools helped her feel confident that she could achieve her goals. She could repeat these affirmations to herself going forward.”
“I am happy to see there are updates to this program and it’s keeping up with current research. In completing the re-certification I’ve reviewed quite a bit of the new information and look forward to reviewing and utilizing all that the Resource Library contains.”
