The final subtheme of Nutrition Month 2025: Nourish to Flourish focuses on Emotional Wellbeing. As stated by Dietitians of Canada:
“Our emotions influence how, when, and what we eat. Food can bring comfort, joy, and connection — but it can also become a coping tool for stress and other emotional challenges. Understanding these emotional connections with food can help us make more mindful, balanced choices. For children, responsive feeding practices support autonomy and help develop lifelong healthy habits. For adults, recognizing emotional triggers can reduce mindless or emotional eating and encourage healthier coping strategies.”
Since 2008, Craving Change has been training health care providers to address emotional eating with practical eating psychology counselling and workshops. Their clients have demonstrated that using the cognitive-behavioural skills and tools increases their ability to self-regulate the urgency to eat in emotional or social situations.
