Problem Solving Helps Defuse Self-Blame

Posted: November 20, 2017

Sally Ho, a dietitian in private practice in Alberta, recently completed her re-certification. She has enthusiastically incorporated the Craving Change® approach into her work with individual clients. Here’s an example:

“I have used the “Problem Solving” strategy with some of my individual clients after describing the dog scenario.  I sensed my clients felt empowered to come up with their own strategies because the strategies they suggest are specific to them.   Also, the problem solving strategies helped them to identify the crux of their problem.  Often they blame their problematic eating behaviour on will-power. Discussing the example with the dog, before brainstorming the originating factor of their problem, was helpful to the clients to not participate in the default mode of self-blame for lack of will-power.”
