Using the ‘Pair & Share’ Technique

Posted: November 11, 2016

Heidi Piotrowski, a registered social worker, recently completed her Craving Change® Re-certification. She shares her clients’ response to the Craving Change® program and gives a great example of how she uses a resource from the ‘Facilitation Tools & Tips’ section of the Certified Facilitator Resource Library.

Many clients in both community-based and private settings I have worked in appreciate the fact that I am skilled in delivery of a program that speaks specifically to their presenting issue: problematic eating. Many have been to counseling before and have been shown a standard CBT approach, but few have had the experience of having it tailored to eating behaviors.

I use the ‘Pair and Share’ Facilitation Technique at the beginning of a group to build rapport among group members and increase comfort level. I then use this technique throughout the program for continued rapport building, support and to encourage appropriate sharing.
